Photo Scanning Service
Boxes of old family photographs are the archive nobody can see any more. I scan them properly, one by one, so they become pictures you can share, print and keep — and I collect them from your door, so they never go in the post.
Photo Scanning Prices
Printed photographs, scanned at 600 dpi. No setup fee.
| Quantity | Price each | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 100 photos | 40p | 100 photos = £40 |
| 100 – 250 photos | 35p | 200 photos = £70 |
| Over 250 photos | 30p | 500 photos = £150 |
Minimum order £25. Every scan is cropped, straightened and delivered as a high-resolution JPEG. Restoration of individual photographs is separate, from £9 each.
Negatives and Slides
Quoted individually rather than priced per frame.
I also scan 35mm negatives and mounted slides, at 2400 dpi as standard and 3200 dpi if you want to print at A3. But I quote film separately rather than publishing a rate per frame, and it is worth explaining why.
Printed photographs can be laid out several at a time. Film cannot: it goes into a holder a few frames at a time, each frame is positioned, previewed and scanned individually, and the whole strip has to be handled without touching the emulsion. A box of negatives is many hours of careful work, and how many hours depends entirely on what you have and what condition it is in.
So tell me roughly how many strips or slides you have — a rough count is fine — and I will come back with a real price rather than a per-frame figure that turns out to be wrong.
Collected, Scanned and Returned
1. Tell me roughly how many
A shoebox, two albums, a carrier bag — an approximate count is enough. I come back with a price and a realistic date.
2. I collect
Free inside Burton-on-Trent, and free across the wider area on orders over £200. We check through what you are handing over together and write it down.
3. Scanning
Each photograph is scanned at 600 dpi, then cropped, straightened and checked by eye. Nothing is fed through a machine unattended.
4. Everything comes back
Your originals are returned in person along with the digital files. You look through them before paying, and pick out any worth restoring.
What You Actually Get
A standard 6x4 print scanned at 600 dpi becomes a 3600 x 2400 pixel file. That is enough to reprint it at twice the original size, put it on a canvas, or send it to family without it falling apart on screen.
Files come cropped and the right way up, not as a folder of crooked scans called scan001. If you would rather they were sorted into folders by decade or by event, say so and I will organise them — for most people that is the part they were dreading.
Outside the collection area? My restoration services work anywhere in the UK from a scan you send me. It is only the scanning itself that needs collection.
Photo Scanning: Common Questions
Loose printed photographs are 40p each, dropping to 35p over 100 and 30p over 250. There is a £25 minimum order. Negatives and slides are quoted separately because they take considerably longer to scan.
No. Collection is free inside Burton-on-Trent, and free elsewhere in the area on orders over £200. Your photographs never go in the post, which is where irreplaceable family pictures get lost.

Yes, but they are quoted individually rather than priced per frame on this page. Film has to be loaded a few frames at a time and handled one by one, so the time depends heavily on how much you have and what condition it is in. Tell me roughly how many and I will come back with a price.
Scanning captures them as they are. Once you can see everything on screen, you pick out the ones worth repairing and I restore those properly, from £9 each. Most people scan a whole box and then restore a handful.
A few hundred photographs usually takes several days. I will give you a realistic date when I collect, and your originals come back to you at the same time as the files.
